The developers have to implement whatever method they choose, and then the XBO does that.įor example, Destiny uses a hybrid system, using Bungie's dedicated servers for tracking players everywhere and maintaining a connection with them, but only hosting their connection to other players, when they are in a high population area like the Tower, or in an area that requires avoiding host advantage, like the Crucible. The XBO doesn't just use Azure servers, or a P2P model for online gaming.
You're pretty close, but to clarify a few things: Has Microsoft taken steps on the XB1/XBL infrastructure to protect players IP addresses? Is my IP address still vulnerable to Man-in-the-Middle attacks on the XB1 or are attacker going to have to find a new way to sniff out my IP? TL DR - BO2 League Play is a breeding ground for Booters/DDOSers. Has Microsoft corrected this problem on the XB1 platform or does it still exist? Even though the game was hosted by a server, the players IP's were still exposed to MITM attacks.
I assume the XB1 platform is different, but when Treyarch announced that they were going to start hosting League Play games using dedicated servers, all it did was create a centralized "host" that all players connected to, but the traffic was still P2P. But they would not have the ability to hold the player offline. Essentially booting everyone from the game (including themselves). The attacker would only have the ability (assuming their attack was strong enough) to take down the particular server that is hosting that particular game(s). That being said, an attacker should only be able to pull the IP address of the Server that is hosting the game (right?). Without getting too technical, my understanding is that XB1 uses dedicated servers (Azure) and fails over to P2P if something happens to said servers or if developers choose to use it (Please correct me if I'm wrong). I'm hoping that my inability to find such information is a good sign, but just wanted to flat out ask if there is a chance that I can be booted by another player on the XB1. I've searched this sub and a few others, but have not really found much info pertaining to if Booting/DDOSing will be a problem on the XB1 platform. I know there is a "Competitive" Style playlist in AW and expect this problem to continue on the 360, but I wanted to ask about the XB1. IT IS INFURIATING, as I'm sure most of you know.

I cannot get through more than 3 games in League before I'm booted and held offline for 30+ minutes. CoD:Ghosts was not my cup of tea so I'd often revert back to BO2. The past few years, I have primarily played Call of Duty.
